Announce Your Book The Way Newsrooms Expect

Written to be picked up, not filed

Editors work through a great many releases and keep very few. The ones that survive arrive in the right shape, lead with the story rather than the sales pitch, and give a journalist everything needed to write about it without having to chase you for details. That is the standard we write to.

What Our Press Release Service Covers

The Authors Tree

Written In News Style

Headline, dateline, opening paragraph, quotes and boilerplate, in the order and the register editors expect, so your announcement can be used with very little rewriting.

The Authors Tree

An Angle Worth Running

A new book is not automatically news. We look for the hook — your background, the subject, the timing, the reason it matters now — and build the release around it.

The Authors Tree
Targeted Distribution

Your release goes to outlets that actually cover your genre, your subject and your region, rather than a blanket send to every address on a list.

The Authors Tree
Quotes And Boilerplate

We draft author quotes for your approval, and a reusable boilerplate paragraph you can carry into every announcement you make afterwards.

Give Your Launch Something An Editor Can Print

Tell us what is happening and when — a publication date, an award, an event, a new edition — and we will build the announcement around it. You approve the angle and the quotes before anything is sent, and the finished release is yours to reuse on your own site and in your own outreach.

When A Release Should Go Out

Timing does most of the work. Monthly magazines and trade press plan a long way ahead, so a release that arrives the week of publication has already missed them. Daily and online outlets work much closer to the day and want to hear from you nearer the date.

We plan the send around your publication date rather than after it, and we will tell you honestly when a story is better held for a stronger moment — an award, an anniversary, or a news event your subject speaks to.

How Your Press Release Is Produced

Four steps, from the brief to the send.

01

Place your order. We take the details of the announcement — the book, the date, your background, and what you want the coverage to achieve. You receive written confirmation and a service agreement setting out the scope.

02

The angle. Before the release is written we agree the hook with you, because that single decision determines whether an editor reads past the first line. You sign off on the angle before drafting starts.

03

Drafting and your approval. We write the release, including quotes attributed to you, and send it for your review. Nothing goes out carrying your name until you have approved every word of it.

04

Distribution. The approved release goes to the outlets agreed with you, and you receive the final copy to use on your own site, your mailing list and your social channels.

What Your Release Includes

A finished release with a headline and dateline, an opening paragraph carrying the essential facts, supporting detail, approved quotes attributed to you, a boilerplate paragraph about you and the book, and your contact details for follow-up. You also receive the file itself, so the same announcement can be reused wherever you need it.

FAQs

The questions authors ask us most often about press releases.

It is a short, factual announcement written for journalists rather than readers. It tells an editor what has happened, why it is worth covering and who to contact, in the format newsrooms are used to receiving, so the story can be picked up with minimal rewriting.

Ideally before publication rather than after. Print and trade press plan weeks ahead, while online and daily outlets work much closer to the date, so we plan the send around your publication date and tell you if the announcement would land better at a different moment.

Yes. We write the release and send it to outlets selected for your genre, subject and region. You receive the finished file as well, so you can use the same announcement on your own site and in your own outreach.

We draft them and you approve them. Quotes are attributed to you, so nothing is sent in your name until you have read it and agreed to it. If you would rather write your own, we will work them in.

Yes. A release does not have to be tied to a publication date. An award, a new edition, an event, a milestone or a subject that has become newly relevant are all reasons for an outlet to cover a book that is already out.

The book, the date, a short account of your background, and what you would like the coverage to achieve. If you have a cover image and an author photograph, send those too — a release with images attached is easier for an outlet to run.
